Job Summary:
Responsible for developing innovative automation concepts, quotations, and technical proposals, the Automation Applications Specialist helps transform customer requirements into effective manufacturing solutions while supporting business development initiatives.
The responsibilities for this position will include:
- Act as the primary technical resource during the sales and proposal stage for automation solution design and concept development.
- Analyze customer requirements, production processes, and system needs to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Lead front-end application development from customer requirements through concept, quotation, proposal, and project handoff.
- Prepare detailed quotations and proposals, including solution concepts, component selection, labour estimates, ROI calculations, and cycle time analysis.
- Conduct customer site visits and discovery meetings to review production processes, gather requirements, and identify automation opportunities; ability to travel as required.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain technical information, pricing, lead times, and application-specific quotation support.
- Perform technical risk reviews during the quoting process to evaluate feasibility, scope, schedule, budget, and commercial considerations.
- Collaborate closely with sales and project management teams to ensure smooth project execution and customer satisfaction.
- Provide post-development support, troubleshooting, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Education, Skills and Job Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Automation, Controls, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in automation or controls applications, ideally in a customer-facing or system integrator environment.
- Proven experience developing technical concepts, cost estimates, quotations, and proposals for custom automation equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Strong understanding of automated assembly, robotics, material handling, machine vision, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motion control systems.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, production requirements, and technical drawings to develop practical automation solutions.
- Experience collaborating with customers, sales teams, engineering, and manufacturing personnel throughout the proposal and project lifecycle.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual design skills with the ability to evaluate technical and commercial risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional technical proposals and present solutions to customers.
