Job Summary:

The Mechanical Design Manager provides technical and administrative leadership to the Mechanical Design team and is responsible for the execution, quality, and on-time delivery of mechanical design activities. The role supports company objectives through effective resource management, continuous improvement, standardization, technology development, and cross-functional collaboration.

The responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Mechanical Design Team through coaching, performance management, training, and recruitment activities.
  • Lead departmental initiatives focused on continuous improvement, standardization, technology adoption, and engineering capability development.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, procedures, and best practices to support quality, efficiency, manufacturability, and consistency.
  • Monitor departmental performance through KPIs including engineering utilization, schedule adherence, on-time delivery, quality, and non-conformance metrics.
  • Manage departmental resource planning and ensure qualified design resources are effectively allocated to meet project and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support successful project execution within scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Participate in engineering reviews to ensure technical accuracy, scope compliance, and standardization.
  • Provide technical leadership and support resolution of design, manufacturing, commissioning, and field-related issues.
  • Support engineering change management, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and safe engineering practices.
  • Evaluate engineering tools, software, and emerging technologies to improve department efficiency and scalability.
  • Support quotation reviews, concept development, and customer technical discussions as required.

Education, Skills and Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma or relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills as well as conflict resolution skills.
  • 10+ years of experience in automation design.
  • Proficient use of SolidWorks.
  • Strong computer skills in all MS Office applications.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and codes.
  • Working knowledge of machining and metal fabrication processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, servos, robots, electrical devices, and other automation components.
  • Strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as a high attention to detail.
  • Able to provide clear direction while remaining open to feedback and collaboration.
